City moves forward (sort of) on short-term rental regulations; Belmont High hosts new L.A. Unified superintendent

LA Unified: Belmont High School hosted former investment banker Austin Beutner one day after he was hired to head L.A. Unified. Beutner, who has never managed a school let alone a school district, tried to win over skeptics during his remarks and a brief-question-and-answer session at Belmont, which serves families in Echo Park and Elysian Heights. “It’s my job to make sure [teachers] have the resources and the training they need to do their job, which is inspire and educate the kids.” L.A. Airbnb: The City Council backed a set of regulation to limit the use of short-term rentals after years of debate. But the rules are still subject to further review and  council members asked city staff to look at more potential changes to the ordinance. As it stands now,  property owners could offer only their primary residence as a short term rental for a limited number of days a year. One council member said it would be another four months before the council would take final vote on the matter. L.A. Times
