Councilman Cedillo backs Bob Arcos for LAPD chief; L.A. named “Most Vegan-Friendly City” at Silver Lake awards ceremony

LAPD: First District Councilman Gil Cedillo was among some of the past and present Eastside Latino political leaders who urged Mayor Eric Garcetti to select Deputy Chief Robert Arcos as successor to LAPD chief Charlie Beck. Arcos, who grew up in Atwater Village, would be the first Latino to head the department if selected by Garcetti. L.A. Times

Vegan: Animal rights group PETA declared Los Angeles as the “Most Vegan-Friendly City” during award ceremonies held at Little Pine, the Silver Lake restaurant owned by Moby. A replica of the Hollywood sign carved out of vegetables was featured at the event. PETA

Break-In: A man was apprehended early this morning after a break-in in Echo Park, according to the watch commander at the LAPD Rampart Division. She had no further details about the incident. But one Eastsider reader said that nine police cars were parked on Laguna Avenue while a helicopter hovered overhead shortly before 2 am.
