You have permission to play with your food this weekend with fun events like the Craft Beer and Cupcake Pairing and Metafork, a brunch event that will transform the way you use utensils – at least for an afternoon.

Read on for our top 10 events and things-to-do this weekend:

FRIDAY, May 18

Family Fun – Bring the kids along for Odd Nights at the Autry where you can spread a blanket on the lawn and listen to live music while the little ones run wild in their own fun zone with a rock wall and massive inflatables. The Odd Market will have more than 80 vendors and pop-up shops and food trucks.

SATURDAY, May 19

Art – Now’s your chance to learn more about the history of skateboarding – that thing you rode to punk and metal backyard parties back in the day – at the opening reception of DIY: The Creative Culture in Skateboarding running through 6/16 at Subliminal Projects in Echo Park.

Eat – Brunch is fun, but artists Dina Dean and Tyler Calkin have managed to make it funner by bringing a series of playfully dysfunctional utensils to Metafork, an experimental eating project, at Thank you for Coming in Atwater Village.

Dance – This isn’t your mama’s cumbia party. New and old school cumbia hits will be played all night by DJ’s Sizzle Fantastic and Funky Caramelo at Cumbiaton in Boyle Heights.

Community – Bring the whole family for a day at the Griffith Park Adult Community Club and Center’s 10th Annual Spring Faire. Enjoy live music, entertainment and activities for kids, teens, adults and seniors and help raise money for GPAC’s programs and activities.

SUNDAY, May 20

Eat – Are cupcakes and beer finally becoming a thing? We’re not sure, but Eagle Rock’s Craft Beer Cellar and Viva Los Cupcakes are giving us hope with their Craft Beer and Cupcake Pairing event.

Art – There is a level of grittiness that goes into street vending, but painter and muralist, Wenceslao Quiroz, portrays these commonplace street scenes in a dreamlike explosion of color in his paintings. Quiroz’s show, Enterprise and Narratives will run through 6/2 at Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park.

Family Fun – Watch cowboy musician and poets perform songs and stories from the Old West and contemporary American West or sign up to perform your own during the Western Music Association Showcase every third Sunday of the month at the Autry Museum.

Entertainment – Meet Sunday brunch’s floozy sister, Wasted Afternoon, at the Silver Lake Lounge. With a happy hour lasting through 8 p.m. and an Open Mic where anything goes, things are sure to get interesting.

Comedy – Enjoy some comedy, adult beverages and good company every Sunday during the Friendship Buddies Comedy Show at the Verdugo Bar in Glassell Park. This Sunday’s show will feature comedian and director of the Disoriented Comedy tour, Jenny Yang.
