Man shot dead in El Sereno [updated]

El Sereno  —  LAPD detectives are investigating the  shooting death of a man near a homeless encampment Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 5300 block  E. Huntington Drive at about 5:20 p.m. after receiving calls of a shooting, said Sgt. Eddy Arangure with LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division.

Upon arrival, officers found a Latino male in his 40s in a traffic median suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital where he later died from his wound, said Arangure. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

But it remains unclear whether the shooting was connected to the encampment, Arangure said.

No further details on the victim or the suspect or suspects were available at this time.
