Name that Silver Lake lizard

Silver Lake  — Thanks to Sandy of Driscoll of Silver Lake for sharing her photo of a blue-bellied lizard she found her backyard.

“I’ve been seeing a lot of these lizards in my yard lately so, I posted a pic and question on Nextdoor. Got almost 40 responses from very knowledgeable lizard lovers.”

This turns out to be a Western Fence Lizard that has a Wikipedia entry as well as a YouTube video.

  1. Sceloporus occidentalis

  2. When I was 10 years old living in Columbus, OH, my parents took us to Cypress Gardens, FL. I remember sitting outdoors eating lunch and seeing a beautiful lizard sunning himself on the wall near us. I said that I would LOVE to live in a place where I could see them all the time. And now I do!

Females lay an average of 8 eggs from April-July…..they hatch in August. So I’m assuming my yard will be full of little lizardettes!
