There is no shortage of yoga studios on the Eastside. But with the sun out and some creative yoga instructors, there are plenty of opportunities to break out of your typical studio practice — like a session next to the L.A. River or a hot hip-hop class in Silver Lake. Don’t worry — we also have some picks that don’t require a yoga mat!
Read on for our top 10 events and things-to-do this weekend.
FRIDAY, June 8
Dance – Hear some of your favorite post punk, rock en español and new wave hits during #ATOMIC, a weekly dance party at the Offbeat Bar in Highland Park.
Art & Family Fun – Buy your art and other handmade goods locally at the Boyle Heights Arts Junction Artwalk. Don’t miss the garage punk band Los Fauna while your there.
SATURDAY, June 9
Yoga by the Lake – Come one, come all to Saturday Morning Vinyasa at Echo Park Lake. All ability levels are welcome to get their flow on under the sun during the class hosted by Yoga Echo Park.
Meditation – Shake off your busy work week with a sound bath workshop at People’s Yoga studio in East L.A. The sound bath will take you into a deeply relaxed and meditative state that will leave you rejuvenated and ready to take on the next week.
Fitness – If getting a sweat session in has gotten harder since having a baby, bring the little one and a stroller along for a morning run or walk at the L.A. Historic Park with Running Mamis.
SUNDAY, June 10
Griffith Park Yoga – After taking in the views of the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood sign, make your day very “L.A.” and follow up your hike with a donation based yoga class at Griffith Park.
Hip Hop Yoga – Leave the regret of your indulgent weekend behind during Y7’s We Flow Hard vinyasa class. You’ll sweat buckets during this New York-based yoga studio’s #HIPHOPSUNDAYS class. Silver Lake’s newest yoga studio is housed in a transformed auto repair shop and uses candlelit rooms to combine heat, strength and the latest beats for its signature Sunday class.
L.A. River Yoga – Have your cake and eat it too with LA River Yoga. Follow up the 75-minute vinyasa flow class on the grass of Marsh Park with an optional group run at 9 a.m. Then treat yourself to post-workout specials at the Spoke Bicycle Cafe following the yoga class.
Brewery Yoga – Brewery yoga is a thing and you can try it out at Frogtown Brewery during host, Downward Grog’s 75 minute open level vinyasa class. Follow up your 75-minute mixed-level vinyasa flow class with some discounted brews.
Comedy – Do date night here if you’re looking to have some fun with your SO. Comedy at the Friend will be kicking off their summer series with comedians Josh Fadem, Aparna Nancheria and Joe DeRosa at the Friend Bar in Los Feliz.
That’s It For This Weekend!
As always, it’s a good idea to check with event organizers about any changes.
