Body found on side of 101 freeway in Echo Park

Echo Park  —  The discovery of a body along the northbound 101 Freeway near Glendale Boulevard this morning prompted officials to shut down a lane of traffic and declare a Sig-Alert as a death investigation was being conducted.

The case is not considered a homicide and is now being handled by the county coroner, said LAPD spokeswoman Rosario Herrera.

The body was reported at about 6:30 am just north of Glendale Boulevard, Herrera said.  Herrera had no information about the sex or age of the person or the circumstances surrounding the death.

The right lane next to the shoulder of the freeway was closed for about two hours and was reopened by 9:22 am, according to the CHP.
