Eastside school board member close to settling money-laundering charges; the DJ who became the Dodger organist

Deal: It appears that school board member Ref Rodriguez, who represents most of the Eastside, has reached a deal with the City Ethics Commission to settle charges of money-laundering during his 2015 campaign. That deal may include him stepping down from the school board, where he has been a key advocate for charter schools. The deal, however, would not resolve criminal charges against him. L.A. Times

Trip: Councilman David Ryu, whose 4th District includes Los Feliz and a section of Silver Lake, will join Mayor Eric Garcetti and other city and business officials on a 10-day trip to Asia to attract investment and tourism to L.A. The trip that begins July 23 will cost $319,000. L.A. Times
