If you’re looking to take it easy this weekend, there’s plenty of laidback activities on the Eastside for you — like a puff-and-paint night in Echo Park and free comedy shows in Boyle Heights and Glassell Park.
Read on for our top 10 events and things-to-do this weekend.
FRIDAY, July 20
Paint – Get lit and get creative with Brushes and Bowls, a 420-friendly paint night in Echo Park. Art supplies, munchies and an “imagination enhancing” gift are included in the ticket price.
Comedy – A free comedy show and cold beers are really all you need on a hot summer night, so come on out to The BLVD bar in Boyle Heights to see comics who’ve appeared on Netflix, Conan and Showtime, including comedian Ryan Demarest, with a cold beer in hand.
SATURDAY, July 21
Music – Share the songs you’ve written with like-minded music lovers at a Songwriter Group Workshop in Silver Lake. Get useful feedback from an instructor and songwriters of all different levels before performing that piece at your next open-mic.
Music & Shopping – Get all the festival vibes without shelling out hundreds during Wild Riot’s Summer Sessions at the Lost Lot in Echo Park. The event will feature work from more than 40 artists and makers, $10 tattoos, free tarot readings and yoga while bands like Uruguay and Kismit play on the outdoor stage.
Do Your Part – Get a henna tattoo and help save an animal’s life during Cause for Paws at the Santé D’Or Foundation, a no kill, volunteer run animal rescue and adoption facility in Atwater Village. All the proceeds from the henna tattoos will go to the foundation.
Fitness – If going to the gym on a Saturday seems like such a chore, head over to Heartbeat House in Atwater Village, where instructors will combine cardio dance classes and live drumming for a fun workout.
Dance – EDM? Trap? What is it and why is it impossible to stand without having downed a substantial amount of booze? Luckily, Fresh Pressed continues to bring a funky, soulful house music party to Los Globos in Silver Lake with their party.
SUNDAY, July 22
Comedy – Enjoy some comedy, adult beverages and your friends every Sunday during the Friendship Buddies Comedy Show at the Verdugo Bar in Glassell Park. This Sunday’s show will feature comedians Steve Tolev, Phoebe Bottoms and Brad Wenzel.
Art – Spend your Sunday afternoon by the L.A. River during the Elysian Valley Arts Collective’s meet the artist series. There will be live music, food and drinks during a silent auction featuring work by Frogtown artists and makers.
That’s It For This Weekend!
