Fight at Echo Park drug store leaves man in critical condition [updated]

Echo Park  — One man was in critical condition following a fight involving at least three people this morning at the Rite Aid drug store, police said.

Police were called to the store in the 1400 block of Glendale Boulevard shortly before 10 am regarding a fight, possibly involving three persons, said LAPD spokesman Jeff Lee.

Lee said there was no shooting. But he had no other details about how the man was injured or whether the fight took place inside the store or in the parking lot.

Detectives and police remained outside the store, which was closed, at about 4 pm. Police at the scene declined to provide more information.

Today’s fight at Rite Aid comes about a month after a man was stabbed one block away inside the Vons supermarket.

Update on Saturday, July 7: The fight that pitted two men against a third took place outside the store, said Richard Parks with the LAPD Northeast Division. As one man walked away he was tripped by another and hit his head on the concrete pavement. Parks did not have an updated condition for the victim but said the man underwent surgery. All three men were believed to be transients, he said
