67-year-old bike rider dies following Glassell Park crash

Glassell Park  —  A 67-year-old bike rider died from his injuries today after colliding with an SUV early Wednesday night on Avenue 34 near Eagle Rock Boulevard, police said.

Apolinar Venancio died at about 9:30 am today at a hospital surrounded by his family, according a statement from the LAPD Central Traffic Division.

Venancio was riding a bicycle on the sidewalk along Avenue 34 east of Eagle Rock Boulevard at about 6:15 pm on Thursday when he entered the street between two parked vehicles as the Equinox was traveling eastbound on Avenue 34.

Venancio  “failed to yield to the Equinox, and the Equinox collided with Venancio,” said the police statement. “Venancio fell onto the street where he sustained head trauma.”

The driver remained at the scene and others provided aid to Venancio.  The driver is cooperating with the investigation.
