Echo Park sexual assaults under investigation

Echo Park  — Police are seeking the suspects involved in two separate sexual assaults earlier this month — one victim was attacked on a bus bench and the other in an apparent case of date rape.

On August 4 at about 8:30 p.m., a woman sitting on a bus bench in the 1600 block of Bellevue Avenue was approached by a man who sexually assaulted her, said Ryan Rabbett with LAPD Rampart Division.

The suspect then fled on foot. No description of the suspect was available and no arrest has been made, said Rabbett in a statement.

Just a few days later on August 11, a woman who was at a bar near Mohawk Street and Sunset Boulevard at about 2 a.m. said  she lost consciousness and woke up believing she had been sexually assaulted, Rabbett said.

The suspect is described as a Latino male in his 30s with a shaved head.

Detectives do not believe the crimes are related. The cases remain open and the investigation is ongoing.
