Elderly woman found dead in Silver Lake apartment fire

Silver Lake —  Firefighters responding to a blaze in the 2800 block of Riverside Drive tonight found an elderly woman dead inside her charred apartment, the L.A. Fire Department said on Twitter.

The third-floor apartment, which “contained excessive personal storage,” was equipped with a fire alarm that was sounding when firefighters arrived.

The county coroner will identify the woman and determine the cause of her death.

The cause of the fire, which was extinguished shortly before 8 pm in the large Riverglen Apartments complex, has not been determined, said the LAFD.

  1. I just came of the 5 fwy (south) at Glendale Blvd. Found Riverside Drive blocked off by a large LAPD presence from Glendale to Fletcher. Now I know why. Thanks for always being on top of everything, EastsiderLA!

Last Friday, August 17th, there was a tragic fire in a Silverlake Apartment leaving my family broken. We lost my grandmother that night, but my mother lost her mother, her home, her belongings and we are completely devastated. I started a gofundme asking for support for my family in this most difficult time. Please take a moment to read it. If you can donate or help in anyway I’d be so thankful. There is immense power in just even sharing the campaign link on your social media. Many hands make the load light. In Gratitude. 🙏🏽❤️ #RIPAbuelitaLuzon
