Highland Park shooting leaves man and woman injured

Highland Park shooting on Mesa Avenue

Highland Park  —  Detectives are investigating a  possible-gang related shooting that landed a 68-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man in the hospital Wednesday night, police said.

Officers responded to the 6100 block of Mesa Avenue at about 10 p.m. after receiving several calls of shots fired.

At the location, officers found two victims, an African American man and a Latina, who had been struck by gunfire, said LAPD spokesperson Norma Eisenman.

An unknown number of male suspects,  described as Latinos, got into a verbal argument before firing numerous shots and striking the victims. It is unclear whether the suspects argued with the victims or with somebody else, Eisenman said.

The victims are in stable condition.

Police believe the shooting is gang related. No suspects have been arrested in relation to the shooting.
