Naked carjacking suspect apprehended after chase through El Sereno & Boyle Heights

Naked car jacking suspect took vehicle in El Sereno and was then captured in Boyle Heights

Pickup truck was taken in El Sereno

A man is in custody this morning after leading police on a pursuit that ended when he abandoned a stolen vehicle and ran naked across the 101 Freeway in Boyle Heights during rush hour.

The vehicle pursuit began at about 6 a.m. after the suspect stole a vehicle by forcibly removing a person from a pick-up truck in the 2000 block of Seigneur Avenue in El Sereno and speeding off, said Sgt. Yerkey with LAPD’s Hollenbeck Division.

Patrol officers in the area recognized the stolen truck and then followed the vehicle a short distance westbound on the 10 Freeway before exiting in Boyle Heights. Officers chased the vehicle into a cul-de-sac near the freeway, where the suspect removed his clothes, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot naked, Yerkey said.

The suspect climbed up the freeway embankment and hid under a bush before dodging traffic near the junction of 10 and the 101 freeways. Following a brief search, the suspect was found nearby and taken into custody.
