One dead after Metrolink train collides with pedestrian in Atwater Village [updated]

Atwater Village  —  One person is dead following the collision of a Metrolink commuter train and a pedestrian this afternoon in North Atwater Village, said the L.A. Fire Department.

The crash took place shortly before 3 pm near the 4500 block of Colorado Boulevard, according to the LAFD.

No information was available about the age or gender of the victim or the cause of the crash.

Metrolink, in a posting on Twitter, said a train on its 218 Antelope Valley line stopped between Glendale and Burbank after a hitting a person on the tracks.

It warned passengers that the commuter trains on the Antelope Valley & Ventura County Line trains will experience unknown delays. “We are seeking alternative transportation,” said the agency.

Update at 9:57 pm: The L.A. Times reports that the victim was a woman.
