How did a man end up dead in an El Sereno backyard? Police are trying to find out

Body found in the 2500 block of Richelieu Avenue in El Sereno

El Sereno —  Investigators are working to find out if a man was killed by accident or died from a self-inflicted injury after his body was found  in a pool of blood last week in the backyard of an El Sereno home.

The man was found by the homeowners in the 2500 block of Richelieu Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. on September 7, said Detective David Alvarez with LAPD Hollenbeck Division.

There was a trail of blood that led to the area where the man’s body was found with a cut on his neck.

“We believe he could have been on the roof and got cut by an electrical wire on the side of the house when jumping into the backyard or he may have inflicted the injury to himself,” said Alvarez.

A broken bottle was found nearby. But investigators do not believe the bottle could have caused the cut on the man’s neck. The cause of death of the 30-year-old Latino male remains undetermined pending an autopsy.

Investigators did not find signs that he was being chased and it is unclear whether the man wanted to break in to the home, Alvarez said. The investigation remains underway.
