Eagle Rock — Residents suffering from minor illnesses and injuries will soon have a new place to go for medical treatment, any day of the week — the Target store at Eagle Rock Plaza.
Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles’ largest health maintenance organization, plans to open the clinic inside the discount store on the east end of the mall sometime in November, said Elita Fielder, spokesperson for Kaiser Permanente’s Southern California Region.
With its Target Clinics, Kaiser aims to expand its primary care footprint rapidly and offer another, easily accessible alternative for where and when people may receive care.
The exact opening date for the clinic isn’t known yet. Currently, the 1,000-square-foot facility, is under construction on the first floor of the Target at 2626 Colorado Blvd.
Kaiser’s Target Clinic Will Treat Minor Injuries & Illnesses
The medical center — which will officially known as “Target Clinic—care provided by Kaiser Permanente” — will provide treatment for minor injuries, including insect bites, cuts and sprains, and minor illnesses, such as colds, flus, sinus infections, earaches and more. Those with chronic diseases, like diabetes, elevated cholesterol levels and high blood pressure, can receive wellness monitoring and care.
Also to be offered are various services for women and children, from family planning to well-baby exams, along with vaccinations, blood drawing and skin treatments.
For a visit, people may drop by and be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments will be available only to Kaiser Permanente members to start but could open up to nonmembers as well in the future. Clinic hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday (closed from 2 to 2:30 p.m.) and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Along with cash and credit cards, the clinic initially will accept certain types of health insurance with more potentially being added down the line. It is recommended that before a first visit, people find out if their insurance provider covers services provided at a Target Clinic.
Kaiser chose the Eagle Rock community for one of its clinics based on several factors, including the number of facilities the HMO has in the area and the existing level of access to nearby care options, Fielder said.
Today, Kaiser Permanente has eight such medical care facilities up and running in Southern California. An additional nine are slated to come online this year, including the one in Eagle Rock. The other eight locations are Riverside Arlington, Northridge, Encinitas, Montclair, Rosemead, Compton, Pico Rivera and Hawthorne.
The national health system has plans for additional Target Clinics in Los Angeles but hasn’t released their locations yet.
