A Labor Day pursuit through East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights ended with a crash Monday night that left three people trapped and injured in their vehicle, according to authorities.
The pursuit began at about 7 p.m. when deputies attempted to pull over a reckless driving suspect near East Cesar Chavez and Gage avenues, said Lt. Rick Mejia with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department
The pursuit ended at about 7:20 p.m. after the driver, a 34-year-old man, collided with a vehicle near State Street and the 10 Freeway overpass in Boyle Heights.
Two women — a 28-year-old and a 35-year-old — and a 31-year-old man were trapped in the vehicle after being hit by the suspect, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The victims were extricated from the vehicle by firefighters before being transported to the hospital to be treated for moderate injuries, Mejia said.
The suspect was taken into custody and is facing charges for evading police, weapons violations, Mejia said. It is unclear if the suspect was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
