Owl on watch in Elysian Heights

Elysian Heights —  No, this is not one of those fake owls intended to scare off birds. This great horned owl  is the real thing. Thanks to Dave Ptach for this photo of the raptor perched on top of his Elysian Heights home.  “Chilling on the roof, right outside my window,” said Ptach.

  1. thanks for the photo. I live in the same area and hear the owls call fairly often. It’s great to see a photo of who’s doing the hooting.

  2. I love all animals, but I’ve been buzzed at night in the park by an owl. It flew within inches of my head and I didn’t hear anything till it passed. That’s why tecolotes have a bad rep, and it’s not just because I’m mexican. Though I wouldn’t put witchcraft beyond them, just kidding.
