Are you out of ideas about things your kid can go do? Below are a variety of Eastside classes and events for youngsters.

Learn music composition in Silver Lake

The Silver Lake Branch Library offers a continuous developmental professional study in writing music for piano to full orchestra. The course will include some keyboard harmony and drum instruction. The next class is Thursday, October 25 at 4:30 p.m. No prior music study is required. The lessons are for children 6 years and older. Go here for details

Boo at the Los Angeles Zoo!

During October, the zoo hosts a bunch of fun activities for the whole family. You can come face-to-face with creepy rare snakes, venomous frogs and lizards. At the Spooky Stroll there are Halloween games, a mini pumpkin patch, photo ops, and more. Note that during the weekend of the 27th there will be treat stations throughout the zoo! Baby Band Practice in East L.A.

The East Los Angeles Library hosts Baby Band Practice to help your little one develop in a nurturing environment. Activities include songs, rhymes, and movement while learning school readiness skills. The event focuses on promoting motor, emotional, and cognitive development through movement and music exploration. It’s from 10:30 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 25th. Suitable for babies 6 – 18 months. Go here for details

Learn to make some Ghostly Origami in Echo Park

Start your Halloween fun with some arts & crafts at the Edendale Branch Library. The whole family can join in on the action and learn how to make origami – the art of paper folding – on Thursday, October 25th at 4 p.m. Go here for details

Halloween Spooktacular at Bob Baker Marionette Theater

Come in your costume and see the “Halloween Spooktacular,” a family-friendly, musical show set to jazzy-holiday songs of nearly every decade. After the revue, you can enjoy refreshments with the puppeteers in the historical party room. Children 2 and under are free! Only available show left is Saturday, November 3rd at 5:30 p.m. so hurry!
