Silver Lake twilight — the calm before the storm? [updated]

Thanks to Dan Gershon for his photo of the clouds reflecting the sunset over Silver Lake. Could this be the calm before the storm?

The National Weather Service warned residents of thunderstorms along the coast early this evening.  No rain to report so far but there were sounds of distant thunder in Echo Park shortly before 8 pm.

Update: That thunder, lightning and rain grew more intense, creating quite a light show for a while. Thanks to Matt Cowan for his shot below of a crazy lightning bolt viewed from Silverwood Terrace in Silver Lake. The National Weather Service extended its “significant weather advisory” until 10:45 as more thunderstorms moved across the L.A. area.
