Boyle Heights bike rider wounded in drive-by shooting

Bike rider shot at Cesar Chavez and St. Louis in Boyle Heights

Boyle Heights  — Police are searching for the suspects who shot a cyclist while he rode his bike to the liquor store Sunday night.

The drive-by happened at about 7 p.m. at the intersection of St. Louis Street and Cesar Chavez Avenue. The victim was riding his bike near the northeast corner of the intersection when two men in a white sedan drove by, and the rear passenger fired two or three rounds from an open window, said Sgt. Yerkey with LAPD Hollenbeck Division.

The suspects then fled eastbound on Cesar Chavez  toward Soto Street.

The victim, a male Latino, was struck by gunfire once in his left leg. He  transported himself to the hospital to be treated and is in stable condition, Yerkey said.

Police do not believe the shooting to be gang related. Details of the suspects and of what prompted the shooting remain unclear.
