Echo Park  — Firefighters took about 30 minutes to extinguish a fire that broke out this afternoon in a garage and spread to the attic of the attached home, the LA Fire Department said.

But the fire, which was reported at 2:47 pm in the 1900 block of Lake Shore Avenue, was prevented from spreading to adjacent homes and brush. There were no injuries but one dog was brought out of the structure in unknown condition.

Downed wires created a safety hazard in the area, said the LAFD. But it’s not clear if they played a role in the fire.

Thanks to Eastsider reader Dean Decent for sending in the photo of the fire

  1. Once again, thanks to LAFD and all your Support Staff. Hope dog is ok

    • A TV report showed the firefighters giving oxygen to the dog, who was standing up. So that’s encouraging.

      • two of the three dogs made it out safe (including the one that was given oxygen after the fire fighters pulled him out), sadly though one little dog didnt make it out..
But considering how quickly it all went up in flames it’s very lucky that no people were physically hurt and the fire department were amazing and worked so fast and hard to get it all under control – they are truly incredible.
