Pedestrian killed on 101 Freeway at Glendale in Echo Park


Echo Park —  An early morning collision left a pedestrian dead on the northbound 101 Freeway near Glendale Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was  struck by a 2016 Toyota Tacoma truck at about 2:20 a.m. as he attempted to cross the freeway from the right shoulder to the center median,  according to CHP records.

The victim, a 26-year-old Los Angeles resident, sustained blunt trauma injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A SigAlert was declared after two northbound lanes were blocked and officials conducted an investigation. The lanes were reopened by about 5 am.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Nobody was arrested in relation to the collision.

Update: A second collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle took place several hours later on the same section of the freeway in Echo Park.
