Police seek help in hit-and-run that left teenage jogger dead in Historic Filipinotown area [updated]

Pedestrian killed near Virgil and 1st Street

Historic Filipinotown  —  Los Angeles Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding the driver who struck a teenager on Saturday while heading south on Virgil Avenue. Andy Olivera Monoscano, who lived nearby, was struck at around 1 a.m. on Virgil near 1st Street while running outside of a marked crosswalk, according to police.

He died shortly after the crash.

LAPD Detective Garry McQueen said there’s still no vehicle description and they are looking for any information that could help identify the suspect.

Update: The LAPD released surveillance video that shows the vehicle in the moments before it strikes the victim running across the street. The victim’s identity remains unknown.

  1. What does “outside of a sidewalk” mean? Don’t use language like that. Are you saying he was jogging out in the street on Virgil in that insane intersection at 1 a.m. in the dark?

    • yes, if that were the case, that would totally justify somebody hitting him with their car and then driving off to leave him to die!
