Skies clear after storm

After heavy rains this morning and early afternoon, the clouds pulled back for a while to reveal blue skies. Dan Gershon could even see the sun glinting off the ocean from his Silver Lake home, where his rain gauge measured 2.5-inches of rain.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service reported that its Downtown L.A./USC rain gauge had recorded 1.90 inches of rain — a record rainfall amount for the day. The previous record was 1.1 inches

The rain is expected to continue tapering off tonight, with drier and warmer weather expected through the weekend.
