Box truck explodes near Olympic and Soto in Boyle Heights

Boyle Heights  —  Authorities are looking into why the back of a box truck exploded tonight near the busy intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Soto Street.

The L.A. Fire Department said the male driver and passenger parked and got out of the vehicle and were not injured. No other injuries were reported as a result of the explosion, reported shortly before 6 pm.

Firefighters told Beverly White with NBC4 that the truck may have been carrying propane tanks.

One video posted on Instagram showed the instant the truck exploded as it traveled westbound on Olympic by the Starbucks at the intersection, showering debris across the street and towards other vehicles.
