Eastside Weekend: Depeche Mode Nite | Panettone-making class | Boyle Heights Heritage Tour

Grab a friend or go solo to one of two cooking classes on the Eastside this weekend. Learn how to make the holiday staple panettone in Silver Lake or vegan cheeses Highland Park and then show off your new skills at your next holiday party!

SATURDAY, December 15

Mujeres Market at Eastside Cafe: Shop for handmade gifts and art made by more than 40 local femme, gender-queer, womxn and transgender creators and artists of color at this El Sereno marketplace. $2-$5. 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Details

“Too Many Tamales” at the Margo Albert Theatre: See what happens when a girl thinks she loses her mother’s wedding ring while preparing the masa for tamales. $15-$18. 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Details

Wild Vegan Cheeses Workshop at Wild Terra: Avoid lactose-induced embarrassment by learning how to make fermented vegan cheeses using aromatic plants, nuts, ashes and sea salt in this Highland Park class. $60. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Details

Ladies Workshop at the Dance Lab LA: Learn some salsa and bachata moves from some of the best performers in the world during this three-hour workshop. $15-$30. 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Details

Map Pointz Artist Talk and Book Signing: Pick up your copy of the book Map Pointz: A Collective Memory that highlights ’90s Southern California Chicano party culture and get your book signed by artist Guadalupe Rosales during this event at East Los Angeles College. Free. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Details

Yoga for Runners at Indie Brewing Company: Go for a 2-mile run around Downtown before sweating through an hour-long vinyasa yoga class geared towards runners in Boyle Heights. Finish it off with some beers, you’ll have earned them! $20-$65. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details

SUNDAY, December 16

Panettone-making class at the King’s Roost: Learn to make the holiday sweet bread under the guidance of Chef Andrea Barbato and go home from this Silver Lake workshop with panettone dough to bake later in the week. $95. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details

Boyle Heights Heritage Walking Tour: Take an extended stroll around Boyle Heights as your guide, Shmuel Gonzales, shows you the history of the neighborhood spanning as far back as the Indigenous and Spanish eras. $20. 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Details

Smoke ‘Em If You Got ‘Em at Crafted Kitchen: Join Chef Adam Cole of Southland Smoke on the patio of Crafted Kitchen and for a family-style holiday feast. Smoked beef short rib and sausage and roasted fennel stuffing are just a couple of the dishes on the menu. $75. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Details

Depeche Mode Nite at the Echo: This is not the night to “enjoy the silence” as the synthpop legend Depeche Mode take over Part Time Punks. DJs will be spinning tunes that span the band’s 30 year career. $5-$10. 10 p.m. Details
