Eastside Weekend: Echo Park wine tasting | Biscuit baking workshop | L.A. River Slow Ride


Take one of a few workshops on the Eastside and get the skills you need to make your own unique holiday gifts — from a floral installation to homemade biscuits — for friends and family.

FRIDAY, December 7

Creatures of Comedy: The Holiday Show at Oeno Vino: Go to the back of this Atwater Village  wine shop, down some stairs and into the basement to see these creatures of comedy light up the stage. Free. 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Details

Flavors 90’s Party at the Echoplex: This Echo Park party’s going to be a sweaty one with DJ Spinna and J. Rocc spinning 90’s hip hop on vinyl all night. $10-$15. 9 p.m. Details

SATURDAY, December 8

Shop Hop in Echo Park: Get holiday gifts at a steal as participating small businesses offer deals all day.  8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Details

Slow ride at the L.A. River: Take in the sights of the Eastside’s greenway segment of the L.A. River on foot or from your bike during the last slow ride of the year. Free. 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Details

Learn how to bake biscuits at the King’s Roost: Churn your own butter to use in baking flaky buttery biscuits in this 2 hour class in Silver Lake. $85. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Details

Echo Park Community Parade: Watch holiday floats, classic cars and live performances by local groups as they cruise down Sunset Boulevard. Santa won’t be the only celebrity in attendance, DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba will be the celebrity ambassador of the parade. Free. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Details

Cyanotype printmaking at the Echo Park Film Center: Use the sunlight to create a cyan blue and white print that you can gift or keep for yourself in this workshop. $5. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details

Wine tasting at St. Athanasius: Sip wine while raising money to support the community-serving programs of this socially conscious Echo Park church. $20. 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Details

A Kinky Bazaar at the Stockroom: Shop for merchandise that will satisfy your or your loved ones’ kinkiest desires at this QPOC-friendly bazaar. Enjoy live performances, raffles and a spanking booth when you’re done shopping. Donation. 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Details

SUNDAY, December 9

Create & photograph your own floral installation at the Light Lab: Learn how to make a small-scale sustainable floral installation you can photograph or be photographed in. After brunch of course! $400. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Details
