Echo Park — Firefighters were called in Saturday afternoon to rescue a small dog that was stuck on the ledge of the Sunset Boulevard Bridge where it crosses over Glendale Boulevard.
Some persons on Glendale Boulevard stretched out a piece of fabric to catch the dog in case it fell off the bridge.
Leda Maliga, who took photos of the incident, describes what she saw:“I’m not sure how the dog got there but a guy was holding onto it through the hole in the wall. Every time anyone tried to grab the dog, the dog would try to bite them. When the firemen came he just reached down and grabbed the dog by the back of the neck so he couldn’t bite him.”
It’s the second time this week firefighters have helped out an Echo Park dog in peril. On Tuesday, firefighters rescued a dog from a garage and house fire on Lake Shore Avenue.
Update: The LAFD said bystanders flagged down a crew from Echo Park’s Fire Engine Station No. 20 to help rescue the dog. “Fortunately, with bystanders help and a safety blanket below, #firefighters were able to get the pup to safety without harm,” said the fire department on Twitter.
