J. Gold’s chosen Eagle Rock and HLP spots; Holloway extends hours and a café’s revival in Echo Park

In memory of Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold, here’s a list of 10 of the Pulitzer Prize winner’s favorite restaurants in Eagle Rock and Highland Park. The list — which ranged from Eggplant and Sausage Pizza at Casa Bianca to Lamb Barbacoa at My Taco — was originally published in Occidental College Magazine in 2014, when the school recognized Gold with an honorary degree. Considering the time lapse, one or two eateries on the list may no longer exist, but the rest is pure Gold.  FYI: Several L.A. landmarks will be bathed in gold light on Saturday night — which would have been Gold’s 58th birthday — to honor the late restaurant reviewer.
