Grab those water socks and head on down to the Glendale Narrows Recreation Zone for the
on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015. Honorary boaters will hit the water starting at 11:30 a.m., with Los Angeles City Council River Committee chair Mitch O’Farrell welcoming the official racers at noon.
Last year saw at least a hundred racers in kayaks, canoes, rafts and paddleboards launch at Frogtown’s Clearwater Street in a low-key competition for prizes and pride. An even bigger turnout is expected this year, with two courses challenging participants of all levels, including youth age 12 and up. An electronic timing system, similar to those used at running events, will track each racer’s performance.
There will be celebrities too, including Northeast Los Angeles icon Chicken Boy and members of the Model-T Road trip crew, and their vintage car. An internationally-famous canine athlete could also make an appearance.

. Slots are limited and must be reserved in advance. Boats are available for those who do not have their own. Spectators are also encouraged, especially if in costume.
All visitors should limit their parking to Fletcher and Riverside drives, and enter throughRattlesnake Park
at the river to avoid disturbing the neighborhood. The race starting line is at approximately2900 Clearwater Street.

The Second Annual LA River Boat Race is presented by LA River Expeditions/The Electric Lodge under a special event permit from the Mountains Recreation Conservation Authority.
