Mexico City is saying farewell to Los Feliz after a 25-year-run. Meanwhile, a new bakery is in the works for Glassell Park while a new coffee roaster is getting off the ground in Elysian Valley. Another long-time Eastside restaurant is going dark. This time it’s Mexico City Restaurant in Los Feliz, Eater LA reports. In its 25-year history, Mexico City established itself as one of the neighborhood’s go-to spots for casual Mexican fare and drinks. Having survived the tides of change that the neighborhood has undergone in the past several years with the influx of fancy cafés and restaurants, Mexico City’s owners released a heartfelt message about its closure: “We would not have enjoyed such longevity without the neighborhood’s support, many of whom are now friends. We recognize what a popular and beloved destination Mexico City has become over the years, so we wanted to give as much notice as possible.” Mexico City remains open until November. Mexico City Restaurant is at 2121 Hillhurst Ave. in Los Feliz.

Max City BBQ in Eagle Rock is the “epitome of comfort food,writes Michael Sprague of the Pasadena Weekly. He tried the WeaKnees, which offers a quarter-pound of brisket, chicken, ribs and pulled pork. The brisket received the highest marks of them all. Special mentions were also given to the cornbread and the no-nonsense mac and cheese. Max City BBQ is at 4729 Eagle Rock Blvd. in Eagle Rock.

A Glassell Park-based baked goods wholesale supplier to some of Los Angeles’ most regarded third wave cafés is expanding. Sugarbloom Bakery, which supplies its sweet treats to Blue Bottle, Alfred Coffee, Civil Coffee, TOMS and Woodcat Coffee Bar, to name a few, is launching a new commissary and retail space and is growing its wholesale program, says a help wanted ad on Craigslist. Sugarbloom Bakery was also mentioned in The New York Times Style Magazine’s baking round-up. Sugarbloom Bakery is at 4126 N. Verdugo Road in Glassell Park.

The owner of a new micro-roasting company in Elysian Valley is going on the road to officially launch the firm and raise awareness of its small-batch brews using beans from Colombia, Honduras, Tanzania, and Uganda.  Shane Mulligan, founder of Elysian Coffee Roasters, will be holding launch parties in his hometown of St. Louis and then Washington D.C. before heading back to Elysian Valley, according to the company’s Facebook page.

Echo Park’s Brite Spot diner could reopen as soon as this Saturday. The nearly 70-year-old restaurant closed late last week after Jaime Turrey and Brooke Fruchtman, who own Ostrich Farm restaurant and Bar Caló, purchased the Brite-Spot from departing owner Dana Hollister. As for possible changes, Turrey and Fruchtman told Eater, “Over the next few months, we look forward to getting to know the Brite Spot and its loyal customers, and, over time, introducing some new developments, including menu items and extended hours.”

Vampires beware – The Cloudy Garlic, a fast-casual sandwich shop in Eagle Rock, is hiring cooks and cashiers to join its team, an ad on Craigslist reports. The Cloudy Garlic is at 2750 Colorado Blvd. Suite 4 next to the Eagle Rock Plaza.
