ECHO PARK - A new, space-age-like chandelier now hangs over the lobby of the historic Jensen's Recreation Center on Sunset Boulevard. The new chandelier may not reflect the brick building's vintage style but it certainly does make for a fancy entrance.
HIGHLAND PARK — Passersby have been watching as the long-time home of Frank’s Highland Park undergoes a renovation, revealing a row of old windows and brickwork that had been covered up for decades by a large yellow and blue sign.
For lovers of old homes, the flipper is often a foe when it comes to preserving a building's historic charm and character. In addition to ripping out original built-in cabinets and tile, one of the most common old house features to wind up in the dumpster is molding - the decorative wood or plaster trim found around doorways and at the top and bottom of walls. Now, urban homesteader and Root Simple blogger Erik Knutzen of Silver Lake wants flippers to think twice before they rip out that molding.

ATWATER VILLAGE -- The local tile and pottery factories of Gladding McBean & Co. at one point churned everything from pipes to the legendary "Desert Rose" dishware pattern sold under the Franciscan label according to a neighborhood history.
