Details for SIJCC's Days of Awesome: Rosh Hashanah Experience and Lunch
The Silverlake Independent Jewish Community Center (SIJCC) is hosting a three-part event series for the Jewish High Holy Days called “Days of Awesome.” The event series kicks off with a Rosh Hashanah Experience and Lunch on Monday, September 30, followed by Down to the River on Saturday, October 5, and concludes with a Yom Kippur Experience and Workshops on Wednesday, October 9.
Ring in the Jewish New Year with SIJCC at an all-ages Rosh Hashanah celebration. Taking place at The Box at SIJCC (1110 Bates Avenue in Silver Lake) at 10 AM on Monday September 30, the Rosh Hashanah Experience and Lunch is a family event, open to everyone.
This isn’t the high holiday service of your childhood. The 90-minute prayer experience, led by Deanna Neil, includes live music, poetry, space for reflection, and just the right amount of traditional elements that you’d expect at the high holy days, including a short Torah service.
Tickets for the service cost $85 for adults and $30 for kids. A discounted rate of $65 is available for students and young professionals. Offerings also include a 30-minute tot service led by Sweet Potato Music for young children (included in the price of the ticket). Revolving around the theme of “thread,” you’ll explore the interconnectedness of humanity and how our world is one woven web, contemplate the new beginnings that come with each new year, and consider how each of us is a thread in the fabric of our community.
Following the service, stick around for a delicious lunch at 12 PM. Lunch is $45 for adults and $25 for kids. The event is free for kids under two. Childcare is available for children ages 2-6.
