Los Feliz — Power to about 1,100 LADWP customers was knocked out for several hours Friday night after the failure of a cable ignited a fire in an underground electrical vault, officials said.

The small fire broke out near the corner of Vermont and Franklin avenues at about 10 p.m. Friday, said the L.A. Department of Water and Power.

No injuries were reported.

A spokeswoman for the power agency said it’s unclear why the cable failed. Service was restored by 4 a.m. after about a 4-hour outage.

The department is is undergoing a massive plan to replace outdated infrastructure, spokeswoman Sylvia Beltran.
