Eastside Weekend: Mr. Sparkle art show; Cypress Park historic walking tour & Ariana Pop Dance Party

Springtime is here and the weather is oh-so-sweet. So opt for some outdoor activities, like a walking tour through Cypress Park or hang out under the big pepper tree at Debs Park to watch a performance by the Old Time String Jam Band.

FRIDAY, March 22

M-E-O-W Loteria Night at Kaleidoscope Kollective: Sip on sangria and jamaica while you play loteria on a kitty-inspired game board. The ticket to this game night includes the Meowgical Loteria pack and prizes include Kaleidoscope Kollective gift items. $22. 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Details.

Club Something at the Sweat Spot: Choreographers Amy O’Neal and Ani Taj will be leading the dancefloor while the duo electro-pop Wajatta – Reggie Watts and John Tejada – provide a live soundtrack. $27.50. 8 p.m. Details.  

SATURDAY, March 23

Womxn of Color Zine & Print Pop Up at Eastside Cafe: This two- day event will host more than 30 indie zine and print vendors, food vendors and a live performance by East L.A.-based Xicana rock group, Oscura Luna, on Sunday. $2-$5. Saturday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Details.

Mr. Sparkle Variety Show Reception at Subliminal Projects: This is a one-time “Mr. Sparkle” themed art show where one of a kind art featuring Homer as the iconic Mr. Sparkle character will be available for purchase. Proceeds will benefit Musak, a nonprofit bringing music to schools in underserved communities. Free entry. 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Details.  

South Cypress Park Walking Tour: Whether you live in Cypress Park or drive by everyday, there are many sights you might overlook if you weren’t on foot, like a decades-old Italian bakery and the “flatlands”. $18-$23. 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Details.

Old Time String Jam Band at the Audubon Center at Debs Park: Spend an afternoon listening to an old-timey jam band under the park’s big pepper tree. Free. 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Details.

Ariana Pop Dance Party at the Echoplex: DJs will be playing nonstop Ariana Grande jams all night, so throw your hair in to a high pony and pile on the glitter and don’t forget to pop into the 7 Rings photobooth. $7-$10. 10 p.m. Details.  

Zebulon Bazaar 1st Year Anniversary: It’s been one year since Zebulon started hosting their weekly vintage market and they will be celebrating with more than 20 vendors, cocktails and brunch. Free entry. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Details.

SUNDAY, March 24

Herbs and Qigong for the Spring Equinox at Wild Terra: Learn Qigong forms and herbal tea infusions that will help you transition smoothly into spring in this workshop taught by a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist and yoga instructor. $25. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Details.

House of Wax Screening at 3-D Space: Watch the 1953 cult horror classic “House of Wax” starring Vincent Price in 3-D  at an underground 3-D museum. $10-$15. 2 p.m. Details.
