A jazz-infused Black History Month celebration in Highland Park, a Silver Lake clown workshop and Dre Day LA.  Read on for our top 10 events and things-to-do this weekend.

FRIDAY, February 15

Paper Flower Workshop at Self Help Graphics: Learn to make vibrantly colored paper flowers that can help you tell your story in this Boyle Heights workshop. $35. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Details.  

Dre Day LA at the Echoplex: Haters say Dre fell off. But this weekend you’ll find out he’s still got it during this annual celebration in Echo Park. Resident DJs and special guests, Battlecat and DJ Melo-D of the Beat Junkies, will be spinning tracks that celebrate one of hip-hop’s most iconic producers, Dr. Dre. Free. 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Details.

Cumbiaton at First Street Pool & Billiard: Bring your honey to Boyle Heights for a late Valentine’s Day celebration and dance late into the night to your favorite cumbias. $5 to $10. 10:30 p.m. Details.

Coffee + Comedy at Civil Coffee: Come for a chill night of HIghland Park stand-up comedy and freshly brewed coffee with comedians Sadiq Samani, Meghana Indurti and many more. Free. 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Details.

SATURDAY, February 16

Artist Nikkolas Smith’s “American Icons” at Hey Hey Tea House: See the acclaimed artist’s collection of works that celebrate American icons who’ve stood at the forefront of shifts in American culture. Some of the icons represented in this Echo Park show include Jay Z, Martin Luther King and Childish Gambino. Free. 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Details.

Dance Yourself Clean Indie Dance Party at the Satellite: Get down in Silver Lake to some of your favorite Indie rock artists. DJs will be playing all your favorite hits from artists like LCD Soundsystem, Sylvan Esso and Chromeo. $5-$10. 9 p.m. Details.  

The Hidden Histories of L.A.’s Melting Pot Bus Tour of Boyle Heights & Monterey Park: Be a tourist in your own city and take this bus and walking tour to learn more about the history of these Eastside neighborhoods. $32. 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Details.

SUNDAY, February 17

Jazz is Dead with saxophonist Gary Bartz at the Lodge Room: For the month of February, Jazz is Dead will be featuring programming to celebrate Black History Month in Highland Park. $20. 8 p.m. Details.

The Poetry Brothel’s Dungeon: Be Mine at El Cid: This is a far cry from your typical brothel! Here you can get a private poetry reading on a bed or chaise lounge for a small fee amid a riotous night of burlesque, live music, and vaudeville in Silver Lake. $40-$75. 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Details.

Clown Workshop: Clown for Improvisers and Actors at Lyric Hyperion Cafe and Theatre: Step out of your comfort zone and into a pair of oversized clown shoes in this Silver Lake clown workshop. $20. 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Details.
