Silver Lake’s Los Globos thrives thanks to a wide range of music and “hipster foot traffic”

SILVER LAKELos Globos got a write-up in the L.A. Times, celebrating the Sunset Boulevard club’s expansion beyond Latin entertainment.

Noting that the east end of Sunset Boulevard “draws more hipster foot traffic” these days than Hollywood and the Sunset Strip do, the Times said the former Latin club now offers “a range of genres including house, dancehall, ska, hip-hop, cumbia, punk and industrial noise, while still regularly scheduling Latin nights.” (The Times also keeps referring to the club’s location as in Echo Park, but it’s in Silver Lake)

Los Globos claims a storied history, opening in the mid 1930s and being, at various times, an American Legion hall, a gay club and a rave site, as well as a neighborhood Latin venue. Six years ago, Steve Edelson bought it.  And after a makeover, the club has been running seven nights a week – with a stage on each of the two floors – despite some neighborhood opposition.

Upcoming shows include everything from a hip hop showcase to a Moth story-telling event.

Los Globos is located on the 3000 block of West Sunset Boulvard.
