East Los Angeles  — Detectives are asking the public to help find the suspect who fatally shot a man during a robbery on Wednesday night.

The shooting happened in the 900 block of South Concourse Avenue at about 10:34 p.m. as the victim, 22-year-old Rene Lupian, was walking home from work, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and family members.

The suspect fired at least one round at the victim, striking him once in the upper torso. After the shooting, the suspect fled in a white sedan southbound from the location of the shooting.

Deputies called to the scene  found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect is believed to be a Latino male.

Update: A previous version of this story said the victim was fatally shot during a fight with the suspect, according to preliminary information provided by LASD.  But a new bulletin issued by the LASD now says that Lupian was the victim of a robbery based on the latest information.
