East Los Angeles  — A suspected carjacker was taken into custody late Monday night after an hours-long standoff with sheriff’s deputies at a mini market

At about 6 p.m., Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies ran the plate of the suspect’s vehicle and learned it was stolen, said Lt. Richard Mejia.

Deputies later learned that the suspect was linked to an armed carjacking in Rialto on Sunday, reports ABC7.

After deputies attempted to pull the suspect over, the suspect exited the vehicle and ran into the Lucky Market in the 3600 block of Blanchard Street where he barricaded himself.

The owner of the market and shoppers were at the location when the suspect entered, but they were later released, reports ABC7.

Special Enforcement Bureau officers negotiated with the suspect for more than 4 hours before SWAT forced entry into the building and took the suspect into custody, said Mejia.
