Echo Park  — Police have arrested a man suspected of using a fire escape to enter a woman’s bedroom and sexually assaulting her while she slept, the LAPD said today.

The suspect was identified as 22-year-old Andres Pascual of Los Angeles, the LAPD said in a news release. The District Attorney’s office today filed one count of rape of an unconscious person and first degree residential burglary against Pascual.

The announcement was made about a week and a half after the LAPD posted a surveillance video of the suspect, who is shown walking up a stairway inside an apartment building in the 1800 block of Sunset Boulevard.

After gaining access to the fire escape, the suspect pried the woman’s window open, entered the bedroom and sexually assaulted the victim, police in a press release issued earlier this month. “The victim woke up and pushed the suspect away. After the assault, the suspect exited through the front door.”

Pascual turned himself in to Rampart Division desk officers on November 23, identifying himself as the suspect in the case, police said.
