Los Feliz  — Officials are preparing for a possible evacuation of the Griffith Park Observatory as a precaution after a small brush fire broke out nearby, according to the L.A. Fire Department and reports on police and fire scanners.

About a quarter acre of grass and brush is burning in the park near the Greek Theatre, the fire department said. No other details were available.

Update at 12:33 pm: The fire has been knocked down after scorching about half an acre, according to the LAFD. The observatory is reopening after staff and visitors were told to take shelter but an evacuation was never undertaken. Expect traffic on Vermont near the theater to be blocked or disrupted for at least another hour.
