SUV crashes into bus shelter on Echo Park Avenue near Sunset Boulevard

Suspects believed to have been involved in an armed robbery in Highland Park were pursued across miles of streets and freeways from La Crescenta to Downtown L.A. before their vehicle crashed in Echo Park this afternoon.

Here’s a run down of what we know so far as of 8:30 pm:

  • The incident began at about 3:30 pm when police responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 800 block of N. Avenue 50 in Highland Park, according to preliminary information provided by an LAPD spokesman
  • The pursuit ended shortly before 5 pm after the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a bus shelter in Echo Park on Echo Park Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.
  • The suspects ran from the vehicle but were apprehended a short distance away on Sunset Boulevard, according to CBS2 video. A gun was recovered.
  • There are so far no reports of anyone injured at the bus shelter next to a Bank of America
  • Sunset Boulevard, which had been blocked off to traffic, has been reopened.
