El Sereno hit-and-run victim was a mother of four children; city begins bike lane repairs

Hit-and-Run: Police identified the woman who was killed by a hit-and-run driver in El Sereno has been identified as 30-year-old Monica Zuniga. The mother of four children was jogging Wednesday morning when she was struck by a car on Huntington Drive, just west of Eastern Avenue. The LAPD is asking the public for help to track down the motorist who was driving what is believed to be a black, 4-door Volkswagen Rabbit with a damaged front end and windshield.  The vehicle fled westbound on Huntington after the collision.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer J. Repairs:  City crews have begun to repair and replace damaged sections of bike lanes and bike ways as the city pays out millions of dollars to settle lawsuits filed by cyclists and their families. Repairs have been made in 300 locations but the problem is far larger and would require the city to spend about $2.5 million a year in proactive repairs, according to the Bureau of Street Services.
