Fire breaks out in Echo Park home

Echo Park — Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze that broke out in the attic of a small home tonight in the 1700 block of Lucretia Avenue.

One firefighter at the scene said it appeared that the one-story home was vacant when the fire was reported at about 8:15 pm.

As fire engines showed up on the street, large flames erupted from the top of the home and thick smoke poured from rooftop vents.

It appeared there were construction tools and pieces of lumber inside the home.
