Smoke drifted over traffic on the 5 Freeway this afternoon after a brush fire broke out on a steep hillside in Elysian Park.

The L.A. Fire Department said the approximately one-acre blaze had been extinguished shortly after 5 pm. More than 60 firefighters and water-dropping helicopters were deployed to knock down  the fire about 40 minutes after it began on the far north end of the park.

There were no reports of injuries. No word on what may have caused the blaze.
