Echo Park  — A fire that began in a pair of storage rooms under an apartment building this morning was quickly knocked down, according to the L.A. Fire Department.

The fire in the 1000 block of N. Bonnie Brae St. was reported at about 11:30 am in the first-level storage area of a two-story, hillside apartment building. Firefighters put out the blaze in about 16 minutes, said the LAFD.

LAFD said its crews protected several residents, including children, as they extinguished the fire. Crews also searched for an rescued two uninjured dogs from the smoke-filled building.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
